Foreign exchange

Yesterday was a travel day for me. I flew to San Francisco. Because Canadian dollar being on par is such a novelty, I was especially interested in the exchange rates different places are giving.

I went to a major Canadian bank and got $1.01 USD per Canadian dollar (rates were around 1.03). The Forex was giving $0.98 USD per Canadian dollar. The Starbucks and Harvey’s at the departure lounge was accepting 1USD as 0.95 CDN. Basically, the businesses always come out on top.

I had a moment of weakness and spent $5.5 on Money Sense and $7.5 on Economist. There are some articles I’m really interested in. I will not be buying any reading material for the rest of the trip and these two mags will be read cover to cover.
