How to get cheap prepared food

The idea is that food that has a short best before date, such as sushi, sandwiches, soup etc. will go on sale before end of day. So if you time your shopping around that time you get some great deals.

This works especially well if you work/study downtown. When I lived downtown Toronto, there are lots of downtown office building food courts which close around 5 or 6pm. I drop by around this time and get some half off dinners.

Same works in grocery stores and even airports. If you ever sleep over at an airport I have two pieces of advice. Advice one is to dress very warmly – it gets cold in airports. Advice two is to go to the sandwich or sushi counters right before closing and get some great late night snacks for cheap. I got three sandwiches for the price of one at the Stansted airport in London once – perfect because there were three of us.
