Changes

I don't post a lot about it, but I have been consumed by the search for a house lately.  I haven't written in detail is because it's been very slow, frustrating, and stressful.  This weekend, after talking it over with various people, I've decided to make a shift to looking for a condo.

Yes, for me it is financially the best deal to buy a house instead of condo.  However the amount of mortgage I have to carry, the compromises I have to make to afford something in my price range, and the limited selection that actually fits the bill, was too much.  The relief I felt after this decision is indication that I made the right one.

So now it's down to coming up with a list of wants and needs for the condo.  As I was talking this over with people, I thought of how things sneak up on you.  I've always been proud of the fact I live well below my means.  And those people whose lifestyle and expenses increase with their increase in income?  Definitely not one of them.

Not really true.  I remember when I was little, and Dad was the only one who brought home the bacon, we lived four people in a two bedroom apartment with small closets, no in suite laundry, and one bathroom.  I never complained of lack of space or not enough bathroom time then.  Now, I find myself listing things like two bathrooms, walk-in closets,  and in suite laundry as must haves.  Things have changed.

Good luck with your search! I think in the future when we sell the house in the country and move in the city (in about 15-18 years) we'll be looking at a condo too. For single women, it's easier overall I think.
