Sobey's Baby be Healthy Program

One of the ladies in my pregnancy class mentioned that Sobey's has a program that gives you free prenatal Vitamins for a year.  Since prenatal vitamins are something you should be taking if you are planning to get pregnant, and even for a few months after the baby is born, I thought it's worth doing a quick Google search.

It is called the Baby Be Healthy Program.  You can sign up online or sign up in store.  However, the 1 year supply of prenatal vitamin is only available to in store participants so I dropped by my closes Sobey's store to sign up.

The process did not take take too long.  I was asked for my health care card, and some information.  Then it took some time for the pharmacy assistant to fill out the rest of the information.  Then I was given a welcome package with the following:

• a Compliments shopping bag
• a 30 day supply for prenatal vitamins which they will call me to refill on a monthly basis
• 1 small jar of diaper rash cream
• 1 small pack of 24 new born diapers 
• a various pamphlets on folic acid, breastfeeding, etc.

Since they didn't mention the other items only the vitamins, I'm guessing these freebies may vary depending on store?

The vitamins have the exact same composition as my Kirkland brand of Prenatal vitamins, actually by the same manufacturer.  I kind of expected that they want you to come back regularly for the refills, probably in hopes that they can win your prescription business.  It works for me since we have a Sobey's close by and I'm almost out of my original vitamins.

Babies R Us Registry

Now that I've finished my exam, it's time to focus on preparing for the baby's arrival.  This weekend we headed down to Babies R Us to create a baby registry (something we've been asked many times but haven't gotten around to).

We are still a little lite on the items on the registry but at least we have it started.  We also got a bag of goodies for signing up for the registry.

Welcome Wagon

I vaguely remember someone saying that when you have a baby, you get sent a welcome basket.  I thought it was from the government.  So my first Google searches for for the welcome basket from the government.  I didn't find one.  But if anyone knows of one please share.  On an interesting note, here is the maternity gift box that people in Finland get, which is awesome.

Back on topic, more searching on the web and I think this Welcome Wagon is the one.  You can sign up for a Welcome Wagon for yourself or for someone else for occasions like Moving into a new community, getting married, expecting a baby, 50+, or becoming a new executive.

Mom and dad got a Welcome Wagon when they moved into their new house last year so I have an idea of what is included.  There are a lot of coupons for services local to the community.  For the expecting a baby one, you sign up to go to an local Welcome Wagon Baby Shower, where you get a gift bag, entry into door prizes, and visit with local vendors.  I'm thinking it'll be very commercial but I'm going to take a look anyway. There isn't one in our city until November so will update when I go.

Also, the website said we can check with our hospital to see if Welcome Wagon visits.  If so, they will visit with a gift package when you give birth.  If not, you can also sign up for an in-home visit.

Johnson & Johnson Healthy Essentials Baby Freebies

I have read that Johnson & Johnson gives out a welcome pack for people expecting babies if we call or email them. I gave the email route a try.  They told me to sign up for the Healthy Essentials.  I did, and yesterday I got this coupon for a Johnson's Baby Take Along Pack ($5.99 at Babies R Us)

If interested here is how you can get one:

• Sign up for Healthy Essentials.  
• As you are filling out the information, be sure to expand the 'Your Household' part of the form, and fill the part about expecting a baby.
• After you submit the form a message will say you are eligible for a trial of the Johnson's Baby Take Along Pack, do you want it?  Say yes.
• In a few weeks the coupon will show up in the mail.  My coupon doesn't expire until June 2015 so plenty of time to use it as well.

You can also earn points on Healthy Essentials by printing and using their coupons etc. and redeem points for gift packs.

Thyme ID - Free Baby Samples

It's wedding season.  This means I have to find something new to wear to weddings that fits my new pregnant size.  Last night I dropped by Thyme Maternity as it is the only all maternity shop that came to mind, and found a dress for this weekend's wedding.  $80.  Not bad considering it is a maternity dress that will have use for a limited time.

At the cash the lady asked if I wanted o sign up for Thyme ID.  I wasn't sure at first because loyal programs are long term and pregenancy is only for so long.  But she told me it was free and I get some free samples, which sold me.

Here is what I got for signing up:
1 Avent Sample bottle
1 pink baby onesie (which works because we are having a girl)
1 $5 coupon for The Children's Place with no minimum purchase and December 2014 expiry date so lots of time to find something
1 $10 coupon for Babies R Us with $50 minimum purchase with some exclusions and January 2015 expiry
1 Thyme VIP Savings book with various expiry dates and minimum purchase
 Various information booklets on Safe food handling etc.

I looked this up online when I got home.  It doesn't say anything about the booklets or the onesie so I expect there may be variations at stores.  Best to ask at your specific store.
