Calgary Co-op Free Product Friday

I happen to glance at an email this week from the Calgary Co-op highlighting something called "Free Product Friday".

Not sure if this is every Friday but I downloaded the Co-op App and got a 3 Roll pack of Viva Vantage Towels ($4.99) for free today.  Check it out for next Friday.

Royal Bank iPad Mini Promotions Extended - Oct 31, 2014

I was signing into my RBC account and noticed that they have extended this promotion.

There are account fees with the accounts you have to sign up for.  The RBC Signature No Limit Banking is the cheapest one at $14.95 per month.  You have to keep the account open until December 1, 2015 or you'd have to pay the price of the iPad mini.  If you open your account in October, 2014, and pay the fees, you will have paid $224.25 for the iPad mini (not as good as the original $194.35).

If you are interested in the promotion you have to:
  1. Open an account by October 31, 2014
  2. Set up 2 pre-authorized payments (with first payments to come out by December 1, 2014) or set up 1 regular payroll deposits (with first deposit by December 1, 2014)

Bath & Body Works $7.50 off (No min purchase) – Exp Aug 3, 2014



I check the smartcanucks website regularly because they are always a good source for deals and freebies.  Last night I saw this coupon published and thought I'd go into the store to see what I could find.  With this coupon you get up to $7.50 off of one item at Bath & Body Works Canada locations with no  minimum purchase required.  There isn't much under $10 at the store.  I got the Weekend Apple Picking Gentle Foaming Hand Soap (originally $6.50) for free.  I had thought maybe they’d ask me to pay taxes, but no.

Royal Bank iPad Mini Promotion - Expires Jul 31, 2014

I have an iPad from work, which I use for my reading and web browsing.  When I go on maternity I will have to get my on tablet.  I was considering the iPad mini because the on complaint I had about the iPad was that it was a little big.  So it was timely that Royal Bank has a promotion to get a iPad Mini.

Free Cirque shows

I wrote about this awhile back.  Beau and I played this game on myVegas for free comps in Vegas.  I wasn’t sure it if really worked.  But now I can confirm for you that it works.  In the last few months we collected enough points for two Cirque shows.  We watched Love and Zumanity.  The redemption process was quite simple, and the seats were great.  Pretty good return for a free game.  Our show tickets totaled about $450.

Using debit

My Simply save plan is going well so far. I thought I'd have give up using my credit card (and the rewards) and use debit instead. No the case. I use the debit card to take out cash. Also, there are places, like the cafeteria downstairs from my work, where I always use cash because they don't take credit. But now I can use debit instead.

So far I've saved $30 since last week. I think I might reach $100 by end of this month.

I read the synopsis for this movie and I really want to see it. I was talking about going to this free screening and apparently it was in some film festivals and got some good reviews. I know seats aren't guaranteed but I'm going to try anyway.

Freecycle

I just signed with a Freecycle forum, thanks to Nancy for posting about it. It is pretty self explanatory. If you have something you don’t need any more, you can post it and see if there’s someone who could use it. Or if you need something, you can see if anyone has it to give. You can search for Canadian and US cities to join the forum close to you.

It is a terrific idea. It’s great for saving money, to help others, and keep things out of landfills.

Like I’ve mentioned before PF I shopped lots and was basically a stuff queen. Slowly and steady I’ve minimized my possession to things I love and need. I’m towards the end, but I’m still getting ride of some books, clothes, DVD’s and other stuff. I have a routine with stuff I want to get rid of.

First I see if anyone I know want it. Then I try to sell it online. Then I give it to charity. One thing I worry about giving to charity is that fact that they get so much stuff. Combine that with not enough staff/volunteers, it could happen that things you think other people could really use get thrown out or forgotten. Now I can make sure it finds a good home with free cycle.

I love it when things important to me all come together, like environment, personal finance, and good will.

Canadian Tire

I was standing in line at the Canadian Tire when this little message flashed by:" Get $20 for new account and get 4.3% for 90 days". Never one to give up 'free money', I looked it up online.

Sure enough. Until August 31, open a new account, make a deposit and get $20 and the 4.3%. Regular interest rate isn't too shabby either: 3.05% like PC financial. I just put in an application online. If interested in checking out this deal or reading the fine print here is the link.

Zune refer a friend

I got sent a link yesterday, where I can refer a friend (living in Canada0 to receive a free Zune. If anyone is interested please e-mail me at browneyedgirlblog@gmail.com with name, e-mail address, delivery address, blog and number of visitors/week, and number of friends on Facebook if you have an account. They also ask for phone number however if you don't feel comfortable giving that out, I will just fill in the form without it and see what happens.

Freebies work

Provided you have a good product. Giving out samples is a great way to market your product.

Case in point:
Last year I got this Reach Access flosser for free. It was sitting there for a long time because I just use floss. Well, mum saw it last week and thought she try it. Now, she’s hooked. I think I have some more replacement heads that was sent with it. She was talking about buying some more.

Best kind of fun – Free

Yesterday, when we went out for lunch we dropped by a local electronics store. The guys wanted to look at this item that is advertised on their website. Well turns out it was the week of their grand opening and were giving away mini remote control cars for free.

We each got one. I got the mini cooper (I always wanted to own a mini cooper). Then someone had the idea of going through our battery recycling for batteries. What do you know? We found some good ones and were up and running in 10 minutes.

Good fun. All for free. Even better. Now I have a mini cooper to display on my desk.

Kind of a freebie – Free Trial

When I bought my Garmin, it included a card that gives me 3 free digital audio program downloads. I checked it out and it’s actually a free trial at audible.com.

Still, not too bad. I actually really like audible.com. It offers books in audio. A lot of selection in fiction and non-fiction. What’s more it offers unabridged versions (something that’s hard to find in the library). I just don’t like how membership works. I’d be perfectly happy to pay on a per download basis, but they charge monthly membership fees. It’s not worth it for me.

Anyway, if you are interested, sign up for the free trial at www.garmin.audible.com. Remember to cancel it in time if you don’t want to be automatically charged on the credit card you logged on with.
